Comment Moderation
Recent activity in the comments of this blog have led me to turn on comment moderation. Those preferring to remain anonymous will still be able to post. I hope this doesn't supress the conversation, and yet minimizes the abuse.
From our experience, I have to say it's amazing you were able to be moderation-free for so long. Now, with comment moderation in place, you'll face those tough decisions about which comments to post and which to reject. It's frequently not easy to decide.
Thanks for the support, Bruce! My hope would be to keep the conversation flowing as freely as it has in the past. I don't have any problem with someone disagreeing with me, but I don't have much tolerance for someone abusing other readers. I'm sure you're right that I'll face some tough choices. Luckily, I have an editor living at my house -- I'll defer the tough ones to her!
I can understand the moderation. Seems rough in the last few days. I can not understand you chosing to publish the 'attaboys'. Seems to have nothing to do with Theatre. The comments to moderation ought to read: 0
I think moderation in moderation is good. You don't want this to become overidden with Viagra ads, as some open forums do and you want to maintain civil discourse, which does not contain vulgarity. We all want the dialogue to be focused on ideas and the topics at hand, not on personal attacks.
I think that there are obviously some members who struggle with the language more than anything and have a difficult time expressing themselves. I would allow the guy to post, just tell him that he shouldn't talk bad about cheerleaders. I was a cheerleader until I got hurt.
I am apologize for my comments. I get carried away and too passionate at times. It will not happen again. Vive la cheerleadern! I have writen Debra on my own with apology.
Well, I've been a bit preoccupied of late with other things and as such clearly missed some recent drama on this site - but I have seen some rather ugly postings at times, and the insults and allegations were usually non-specific so you couldn't really even understand what the person was complaining about. So, kudos on employing comment moderation Dave. I usually find that if I can't present a dissenting view in a civil manner, it's best to remain silent.
